SITTIN' ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY...
Watchin' the tide roll away...
Well I am not exactly watching the tide roll away, however I am sitting on the dock and enjoying the sunshine down here in Tennessee. The weather gods have seen fit to string together three days in a row of hot an sunny conditions so that we can enjoy the lake and get some boating in!
We have been here since Wednesday and we will be coming back home on Monday (this was written on Sunday morning), after we finish helping our American friends celebrate Memorial day. To all of our Tecumseh Alumni who are now living south of the border, Happy Memorial Day!
Ticket sales are moving along and as I sit here reviewing the newsletter I wrote at this time five years ago, it appears we are in the same position as then. We have sold over 150 tickets so far, but as it was five years ago, we have not yet sold enough tickets to make expenses. All indications are that if those who have given us their verbal assurances that they will be attending actually buy their tickets, we will have a great turnout and should have no problem with those pesky expenses. In the meantime, if you are planning on coming to your reunion, I would ask you to make your commitment and purchase your tickets sooner, rather than later and alleviate some of the stress that I am going through. You know, it is MUCH more expensive to throw a reunion for 500 or 1000 than it is to throw a reunion for 100??? Who knew????
We do know that for some reason, people tend to put off their ticket purchases until the final few weeks, but please help me out and buy your tickets!!
A good number of ticket purchases were made this week and many of them were teachers.
Among others, the following people have confirmed their attendance at the reunion this week:
Website registrations continue to come in at a good pace, and if this is any indication of interest and intent, we should do very well the weekend of our reunion. Among others, the following people have registered on the website this week:
John Sneep (teacher)
Wilma Derubeis (teacher)
Sharon Carriveau (teacher)
A great showing for one week and it shows that people are talking up the reunion. Let's now turn these registrations into ticket sales!!
Friday Night Movie
Last week, I gave a list of the top 10 movies from the seventies to choose the movie for the Friday night movie night and so far American Graffiti is winning by better than two to one margin. If you have an opinion on which movie should be shown on Friday night, please make your selection known to us so that your vote will be registered. You can vote on our Facebook group page or you can vote by replying to this email with your selection.
If you would like to refresh your memory on this list of movies, take a look at last week's newsletter which can be found at www.Tecumsehreunion.com/newsletters.htm. Select last Sunday's date and you will be able to read the newsletter in it's entirety, or you can just scroll down to see what the movie list is...
We continue to find more people from our lost alumni list, thanks to your help. Many leads came in last week as a result of our listing and many of them have been located, but please take a look at our lists from previous newsletters and see if you know where any of those people are. Also you can take a look at our class list at http://www.tecumsehreunion.com/Secure/Class%20List.asp and see if you can help us find someone with no ** next to their names. If you see someone you knew from school who does not have a check mark next to their name, indicating a ticket purchase, please help us by contacting that person and convincing them that it would be in their best interest to come to the reunion. The success of this reunion is totally dependent upon you and your willingness to participate.
This week's list of lost alumni are as follows:
Come Early - Come Often!
Many people have indicated their intention to come to our Thursday evening Players Club early registration event, so this means that many people will be arriving early. I can tell you that there are many people flying in from great distances, so you may want to get a jump on the weekend by attending the Thursday night event. This event and all events taking place at the school are offered at no charge so regardless of your ability to attend Friday or Saturday night, we would encourage you to come out to these activities.
Volleyball and Basketball
Please let us know if you would like to participate in Volleyball or Basketball as the organizers for these event are looking for you! You can contact Randa Rossini at Randa@Tecumsehreunion.com for volleyball or Michael Alexander at Michael@Tecumsehreunion.com for Basketball.
A Note From John Sneep - Former Teacher At Tecumseh
My first teaching job was at Tecumseh and I enjoyed it thoroughly and learned a great deal from my colleagues and students there. I taught grades 10, 11, 12, and 13 Biology during the three years I spent at Tecumseh.
I was given terrific opportunities to develop new courses--a field ecology course in grade 11 and a laboratory microbiology course in grade 12. I remember very fondly the three years at Tecumseh. and am very grateful to my science colleagues for the wonderful support they gave me.
This past week, nobody was able to crack a score of over 50% so I have no superstars to announce. Be sure to take the challenge this week and see how you can do!
The answers to last week's trivia challenge were as follows:
