NOBODY LOVES ME BUT MY MOTHER (and she could be jivin' too)
It's Mother's Day! To all you mothers out there (doesn't THAT mean something different than it did when we were back in school), Happy Mother's Day! If you are fortunate enough to be able to do so, be sure to go see or at least talk to your mother today. Now that we have made it this far in life, I am sure we all have a better appreciation for the effort that it takes to be a Mom and all the work that goes into it.
D- in English...again!!
It has been brought to my attention that my grasp of literary techniques including grammar and punctuation on the website is not up to the high standards expected of a Tecumseh Brave. I do not have a proof reader, so if you see incidents of this, please make them known to me and I will fix them.
I am not an English major (far from it). As Sandra Rizzetto will confirm, I daydreamed my way to not one but TWO failing grades in grade 11 English. Please help me out when you notice that I have messed up spelling, grammar, punctuation etc. so that I can fix it. Sometimes, the errors are caused simply because I have so much content to put up and I type faster than my brain can process what is going up on the page. Other times, I simply don't know how to express myself correctly!
Ahead of Schedule!
Five years ago today, I wrote a reunion newsletter to Class of 1976, and in that newsletter, I made it known that the ticket order form was finally available for people to download so that they could buy their tickets. For those of you who are concerned about the fact that some of your friends have not yet purchased their tickets, I want to assure you that our reunion five years ago had even a smaller percentage of tickets sold at this time than we do and we ended up with a hugely successful reunion!
It appears that we are just entering the stage in our planning and execution where most people are starting to make the commitment to attend. Avril (Farmer) Kelly was the very first person I spoke with about this reunion, back in October. She was very interested and has been an active participant in the lead-up activities, and she made her ticket purchase this week (I am guessing that it took her that long to get her old geriatric butt across the floor with her walker and remember how to use that newfangled computer). Regardless, it is time to step up and make the commitment! Ticket sales close officially on June 30, as we need to submit our numbers to the caterer. This means that there are just less than eight weeks left to purchase your tickets! If it is not possible for you to commit until past the deadline, as long as you make this information known to us in advance, we can put you on a list for tickets held back in reserve for such situations and if the caterer can accommodate you when you are able to make the commitment, you are welcome to purchase your tickets later than the deadline.
Among those who have purchased their tickets this week are Avril (Farmer) Kelly, Linda Morris, Ruth Wilson and Philip Wilson. To date, we have not had a single week where we have not sold tickets! Don't forget that you can buy your tickets online or by mail by visiting www.Tecumsehreunion.com/Tickts.htm.
More photos have been added to the website at www.Tecumsehreunion.com, including 6 pages of candid photos from the 1979 yearbook and Grade 11 and 12 class photos from 1973. You can find all of this new content and other new stuff by clicking on the different years on the left side of the main website page and following the links found within those years.
Another Successful Meeting and More Prizes!!
The Organizing Committee met again yesterday, and once again, we had a productive meeting. Among other things, we have had two significant monetary donations to our effort, and Janice Lally has been able to secure a great hotel / show package from Caesar's in Windsor that is valued at over $350!
This, as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame package will be available as draw prizes on the weekend of the reunion. Tickets for these great prizes will be sold at the reunion and drawing will take place on Saturday night at the Kinsmen Auditorium event.
Many other door prizes will be awarded to people just for showing up at the event, so there will be opportunities for everyone to go home with a nice prize. A commemorative poster and program will be given to all attendees, and the poster will be made from an inspired painting that captures the essence of our days at Tecumseh by our own Will (known by us as Bill) McGarvey (Class of '71).
Michael Alexander has the following to say about his basketball effort:
SO FAR, OFFICIALLY, WE ONLY HAVE TWO PLAYERS FOR THE ALUMNI BASKETBALL GAMES: ME AND RICK STARKS. NOW I KNOW THAT THIS WILL MAKE FOR A VERY EXCITING ONE-ON-ONE EVENT THAT WILL ATTRACT THOUSANDS! BUT I'M HOPING THAT WE CAN GET ENOUGH PLAYERS TO DO IT THE RIGHT WAY. (REMEMBER WE'RE TRYING TO HAVE ONE GAME FOR FORMER TEAM PLAYERS AND ANOTHER FOR INTRA-MURAL PLAYERS.)
PLEASE SEND ME A NOTE ON FACEBOOK OR ON MY PERSONAL E-MAIL:
firstname.lastname@example.org TO LET ME KNOW WHICH TEAM YOU'D LIKE TO PLAY ON.
I'VE ATTACHED A RECENT PHOTO OF PAUL DRISCOLL DUNKING DURING A WORKOUT TO INSPIRE YOU TO GET ON BOARD.
Since this message was posted, Michael has revised his message to say, "...we do have about 10 people so far, counting the names forwarded by Sue Cummings (thanks Sue!)..."
As of today, the song leading in in voting for last song of the evening it "Stairway To Heaven" by Led Zeppelin. "Hey Jude" is close behind and a few votes either way could change that. If you have a preference, please let me know by replying to this email or voting on the Facebook page and your vote will be registered.
Lost and Found Alumni
New registrants on the website this week include the following:
Rick "Ears" Brownlee
Greg Van Norman
Welcome, all - to our Tecumseh Reunion effort!
If you have missed out on our early newsletters, you can go back and read any or all of them by going to www.tecumsehreunion.com/Newsletters/Newsletters.htm and clicking on the link to any of the dates listed on that page. The very first newsletter is shown on the opening page with all subsequent newsletters listed by date across the top of the page.
We have listed many people throughout the weeks as "Lost Alumni" and although many of them have been found, we still have quite a number of people we are still looking for. Take a look at the old newsletters to see if you can help us find some of these people.
This week, we are looking for the following people:
Please help us to locate these people.
For those who are wondering what is planned for our great reunion weekend, I have included the schedule below:
