KEEP ON TRUCKIN'
I have seen my share of cars in the ditch this week. I drove to Chicago and back on Monday and Tuesday, and we drove to Windsor yesterday and both trips saw nasty slippery weather. I will be glad when at starts to warm up around here!
We are well into our second month of activity in planning for our upcoming Tecumseh reunion on the weekend of July 21 - 24, 2011. It appears that the word is really starting to get out as we had one day this week where we had nearly 25 website registrations! This means that people who know about our reunion like what's going on and they are telling other people about it.
I have personally spoken with a number of alumni this week and nearly without exception, I have found that people are excited about our planned reunion and they are spending at least a few minutes each day on the reunion website at www.Tecumsehreunion.com . Many people are either sending us contact information for their former Tecumseh friends or they are themselves registering contact information on the website. Either way, we are building our database and getting lots of positive feedback. We have had lots of Delanghes, Verbruggens and Wilsons, among others who have brought their siblings on board. If your sibs are not registered, now is the time to do it!
I have also discovered in my conversations with people, that they assume that we have contact information for people that we do not, because they are in touch with these people so often, they just assume that their friends know. This is not always the case, because unless someone provides us with this information, we do not have it. Please help us with this!!
We have had a couple of people who have contact information for Tecumseh alumni who, for whatever reason have chosen to retain this information for themselves, and themselves be the personal liaison between their friends and the reunion effort. I would like to encourage those people to at least make this contact information known to us so that we can send out the newsletter, if not register on them on the website.
We are having some difficulty in locating 1970 grads. To date, we have located three or four. I would really appreciate if you could pay special attention to this group of people this week and if there is someone on this list who you know, please pass the information on to us at Scott@Tecumsehreunion.com. This is the only year where we are really lacking in contacts, so this needs to be fixed!
We still have around 1500 names of people for whom we have no contact information. This is a considerable number! Please take a look at the contact list at http://www.tecumsehreunion.com/Secure/Class%20List.asp . Check for the names with ** next to them and then look for your friends with no ** next to them. Click on the name and then click, "Update Information" to add their contact information. Once we have this, we can include them in our weekly email newsletter and let them be a part of the planning and execution of our stellar weekend of fun and reconnection!
Ticket sales have slowed a bit this week, I am guessing because many people have tripped off to places warmer and sunnier for a brief escape from the harsh winter. We need to keep ticket sales moving along, so if you have not yet purchased your tickets, please be sure to do so soon, as it is knowing that other people are coming to the reunion that inspires others to buy their tickets.
Once again, we have added a number of class photos to the website, but we are still looking for help in scanning yearbooks. Help for this activity has diminished in the past couple of weeks and we have lots of scanning that needs to be done. If you can help us, please contact me at Scott@Tecumsehreunion.com and I will be happy to set you up with a scanning job. Be sure to check out the class photos that are being added to the website by clicking on the class years, 1970 - 1979 and look at the grades for photos. We are setting the photos up so that you can continue to hit "next" or "back" to go from grade to grade and year to year in the class photos section. Once this is done, you will be able to navigate from grade 9 of 1970 to grade 13 of 1979 without leaving the photos section!
We are also looking for your photos and bios. Please let us know what you have been doing since you left Tecumseh. Send us your current and past photos, so we will be able to add them to our website. We are particularly looking for photos of your days at Tecumseh so that we are able to build candid photo sections on the website.
If you have had a chance to go to our Facebook group this week at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_172774789405048&id=200695706612956#!/home.php?sk=group_172774789405048&ap=1 you will have likely either watched or have been a part of our ongoing, "Who is this?" game. What started as a passing photo posting, expecting it may take a couple of hours to a couple of days to solve for identification, has turned into a fairly fast paced game where photos posted are solved within seconds to minutes, with as many as 10 - 15 people participating in the challenges. This has also resulted in much light banter and topic discussion.
If you have a Facebook account, I would encourage you to join in the fun. If you do not have a Facebook account and you would like one, we would be happy to help you set up an account that will allow you to participate in our live discussions and live trivia games. If you would like help setting up your Facebook account, please contact myself Scott@Tecumsehreunion.com or Dan Foster at Dan@Tecumsehreunion.com and we will set up your account for you, set up your alumni list and send you a login link, wherein you can login, set your password and start participating in our live online discussions, banter and trivia games.
I hope to be able to set up scheduled time slots when we can all meet for live sessions of online trivia on the Facebook page, however for the moment, it is merely hit and miss, based on my ability to sit down and moderate these sessions between my other tasks and commitments.
I would like to caution those who look to the membership numbers on our Facebook group as an indicator of interest in the reunion that these numbers do not accurately reflect anything but those in our alumni who have a Facebook account AND are interested in being involved in that particular Facebook group. There are a number of our alumni who do not and will not ever have a Facebook account, but have registered or will register on the website. The only true reflection of interest and knowledge of our reunion is what can be found on the contact list on our website at http://www.tecumsehreunion.com/Secure/Class%20List.asp. If you do not see ** next to a name, you can assume that they have not been made aware of the reunion and will need to be contacted.
We are looking for someone who can sew. We need someone who has the ability to create a 6' - 8' Tecumseh Braves T-shirt out of lightweight parachute material for a special promotion. If you are able to contribute your talent to this effort, please contact me at Scott@Tecumsehreunion.com for details.
Contact Help Needed
We are also still looking for people to help us contact former staff and alumni. This is a tremendous task and it will take more than just the handful of people who are currently making the effort. The success of our reunion will depend on contacting as many people as possible and making them aware of our plans. If you can help us in this endeavour, please let us know. You can contact anyone on the organizing committee or you can send an email to myself at Scott@Tecumsehreunion.com and I will put you in touch with the appropriate reunion committee member.
Once again, we have had good participation in our Tecumseh Trivia Challenge at http://www.tecumsehreunion.com/trivia.asp, but alas, we have had our butts kicked by the mixed marriage team of Tecumseh and CCI grads, Terry (Emans) Youngs and her husband Richard. The husband and wife team scored another impressive 8 out of 10, with the closest challenger scoring a mere 4 out of 10!!
I just know that you don't want to be shown up week after week by a non-Tecumseh brainiac, so let's get on this trivia challenge and blow the cobwebs off the old brain cells!! I know there are lots of people out there who are very capable of acing this challenge, so let's see you step up!!
