We are into the first week of February, and again I look out the window and think, "I HATE WINTER!!"
Before we get into the business at hand, I would like to congratulate our own Sue (Walczak) and Jim Cummings - class of 76. They are first time grandparents as of last night of a baby girl, Julia Elizabeth Cummings! All the best!!
Momentum is Building
I am pleased to announce that momentum is building and interest in our upcoming Tecumseh Secondary School Class of 1970 - 1979 is on the rise! We have had another good week for registrations on the website at http://www.tecumsehreunion.com/contactform.htm . We are getting at least one registration every day and many days we are still getting numerous registrations. We are starting to see people registering that were referred by some of the first people to get involved in our group, so it seems to suggest that those who know about our reunion plans like what they see and want to bring their friends onboard!
I am pleased to see this, as the organizing committee is working hard to bring you the best weekend of activities for your Tecumseh reunion possible. Our committee members are busy contacting former students and staff and making them aware of the website at www.Tecumsehreunion.com and our Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/home.php?sk=group_172774789405048&ap=1 .
We are getting lots of feedback from everyone, telling us of the wonderful job the organizing committee is doing in putting this reunion together as well as kudos for the caliber of activities planned for the weekend. Nearly without exception, people who have either expressed their intent to attend or have stepped up and purchased their tickets have expressed their intention to be in attendance from Thursday, July 21 straight through to the end!
Another Major Announcement!
In keeping with my promise on the Facebook group this week to make another major announcement, I would like to announce that we have confirmed the entertainment for our Thursday night gathering at the Player's Club in Chatham. A local band, made up of musicians many of us know and have seen in various other bands throughout the years have been secured to play music for us at our Thursday night gathering.
Blutonium is an excellent R&B / Funk / Soul / Blues band that has been gaining popularity since they were formed a number of years ago. Blutonium features local musicians Jeff Mifflin on guitar, Rick Chrysler on drums and our own Bob Wilson on bass and Phil Caron on lead vocals, harmonica and guitar. Blutonium plays all over southwestern Ontario, including London, and will be the featured entertainment next weekend at an event honoring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and member of the Funk Brother (the band that played on every smash Motown hit in the 60's and early 70's, Dennis Coffey. You may remember Dennis's hit song, Scorpio. Dennis Coffey will be inducted into the Canada South Blues Society on this occasion.
I have had a chance to listen to Blutonium and I am very impressed with their sound and their repertoire. They do everything from James Brown to Al Green, Otis Redding, Santana and many of the blues greats! They are a great, "Get off your butt and dance" band and I know that you will enjoy an evening with Blutonium.
We are working on other things that we may or may not announce before the events as we may just let some of them be a surprise, but you can be assured that if you are not in attendance at our weekend of fun and reconnection, you are missing out on something that will be on the minds and tongues of Chathamites, not just Tecumseh alumni for years to come.
Ticket Sales and Interest Spiked
Since announcing the reformation of our locally famous "Friends" band for the reunion, ticket sales have spiked, along with registrations and emails expressing intention to attend. We have even had Non-Tecumseh people express their intention to buy tickets and attend our Saturday night event, just to see the long awaited reunion of Friends!! We are also beginning to attract the interest of people and companies who are interested in sponsoring our events, in order to help offset our enormous expenses, or to make our weekend even more memorable!
If you, or anyone you know is interested in becoming a Tecumseh Reunion sponsor, please contact Chris Foster at Chris@Tecumsehreunion.com. Also, if you are interested in donating to our reunion effort, an online link has been set up at the bottom of the home page at www.Tecumsehreunion.com and on the ticket sales page at www.Tecumsehreunion.com/tickets.htm.
Speaking of tickets, have you purchased yours yet?? Nothing builds momentum like activity and if other people know that you have purchased your tickets, they will be more likely to purchase theirs, so PLEASE buy your tickets early!! Many people have the tendency to sit back and wait, thinking it is so far away that there is no hurry, but be assured that many people are watching to see who is coming and once people start buying their tickets, others will follow suit. If you want your reunion to be the ultimate success that we all expect it to be, this is your way of helping to ensure that!
BUY YOUR TICKETS TODAY!!
Also, please do not forget about the commemorative DVD that we will be producing. This DVD will feature the Class Photos and Team Photos of all 10 years featured on our website at www.Tecumsehreunion.com and will work as a fully functional, browsable keepsake website when inserted in computer. When inserted in your DVD player, it will display a great slideshow of all images produced for the reunion including all yearbook photos and event photos. At the moment, we are featuring the DVD as a $15.00 add-on to your ticket package. If we discover that the cost of producing the DVD is more than anticipated, we may need to raise the price of the DVD. Anyone who has purchased their DVD will be grandfathered into the original price paid. I am hoping that this will not be necessary. I can tell you, having produced this same type of DVD for Class of 1976's 30th anniversary reunion, this is a treasured keepsake and is not something that just sits in the drawer and collects dust!
Help Us To Contact People
We still have a long way to go in contacting all of our former alumni and staff, so please help us out by providing any contact information that you may have. We have found that getting our newsletter in the hands of people is the best way to garner their interest in our reunion, and we find that once they are reading our newsletter, most become involved with the effort soon after. If you want to know who we have contacted, go to http://www.tecumsehreunion.com/Secure/Class%20List.asp and look for ** next to the names of people. Those who have ** next to their names will have some sort of contact information provided. Those without are still being sought after. You can help us with that information by clicking on the name of a person you know and clicking on the "Update Information" link to provide current contact information. If you prefer that any of the information not be available for your classmates to reconnect privately with you, please indicate it on the comments section at the bottom of the form
Don't forget to contact Michael Alexander at Michael@Tecumsehreunion.com to express your interest in playing basketball at our alumni basketball games and contact Randa Rossini at Randa@Tecumsehreunion.com for volleyball. Interest is building in these events so get your name in early!
Fun and Games
We have had a great deal of activity on both our Facebook Group page http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/home.php?sk=group_172774789405048&ap=1 and our Trivia Challenge page http://www.tecumsehreunion.com/trivia.asp . This week, I have been moderating the occasional game of "Who is this and what grade was he in in this photo" where we post a random photo of a former staff member or student on the Facebook group and ask the question. For bonus points we may ask a trivia question about that person, such as, "What was Mrs. Karunaratne's famous catchphrase?" ...ALL TOGETHER NOW - - - (You know what it is, don't you??) I swear we could hear it all the way to the gym, some days! The superstars of Tecumseh trivia on the Facebook page for this week were Paul Driscoll, Randy Filby and Sue Benning. Congrats, all!
This week's trivia challenge at http://www.tecumsehreunion.com/trivia.asp was a tough one, and we had quite a number of people participate in it. The winners of this week's trivia challenge were a husband and wife who took the challenge separately, but each of them achieved 9 out of 10 correct answers after a couple of attempts. Congratulations to class of 1977 alumnus, Terry (Emans) Youngs and her husband, CCI Grad and my very closest friend growing up, Richard Youngs! Now as much as I am proud that my good friend was able to achieve 9 out of 10 on this challenge, I ask you - Are you going to let a CCI grad take your Tecumseh Trivia Challenge title!!! I would be on my toes and get those questions answered because I have a feeling that we are going to be invaded by he and other challengers that will try to take the Tecumseh 70's challenge away from Tecumseh. Remember, we were known for spirit, so let's get with it!!
Next Organizing Committee Meeting
The next meeting of the organizing committee has been set for February 26, and if you are interested in helping out, if even to help contact your classmates, please contact me at Scott@Tecumsehreunion.com and we will gladly accept your help!
All the best,
