Tecumseh SS Reunion – Committee Meeting Minutes

Date: Saturday February 26, 2011

Attended by: Scott Primeau (chair), Dan Foster, Mike Alexander, Tom O’Brien, Sue Cummings, Chris Foster, Sue (Walkom) Eagleson, Bob Ripley, Mark Delanghe, Dave Colby, Andy Ramsz, Randa (Rossini) Speller, Peter Stanojevic, Tom Starks

Guest Presenters:

1.       Peter Stanojevic – presented an opportunity to create a bronze memorial plaque for Tecumseh Secondary School.  Probably requires about $2000, which could be funded through ticket sales, event profits, 50-50 draw.  If approved, goal would be to have the plaque completed and ready to display by the reunion.  Requires commitment by mid-May in order to get the plaque prepared and shipped in time. 

2.       Tom Starks – is planning to get his old band (7 piece band now @$1750, has added a horn section) back together to play at the reunion, and will also join the fundraising committee.

Issues/ Discussions:

·         Memorabilia – Peter has some memorabilia to hand off. Can be displayed at Tecumseh during the reunion, but he’d like us to keep it afterwards. Also, committee learned that Tecumseh principal wants to get rid of all high school memorabilia – some was given to last year’s committee, who attempted to sell it.

·         Capital Theatre financial problems – site is in receivership and being managed by the City of Chatham through to end of this season. We’ve been promised that we can still have the Friday evening event there, but may need a back-up plan if this changes.  Still want to have a staff wine and cheese within the Capital event – Leo Girard and Peter Stanojevic are organizing it. Teachers will meet an hour prior to the main event, then will mix with everyone else.  The expenses for the staff mixer will be covered out of the overall ticket sales.

·         Ticket sales – need to spur increased commitment and advanced ticket sales, in part to ensure down payment and early expenses are funded, but also to create a groundswell of excitement which will in turn spur more sales (people checking the site to see who’s committed so far, but may be taking a “wait and see” approach. 

·         Need help collecting raffle and door prizes from local businesses – Chris Foster

Decisions:

·         Reunion Dates: Thursday – Saturday July 21-23, 2011

·         Projected expenses = $6500 (without the DVD creation expense and some incidentals)

·         Reunion program – will have advertising opportunities. Fundraising team to seek ad participation, goal is to print 500 copies

·         Need all committee members to provide updates, and to participate on the Facebook site, become more visible and accessible to other 70’s people.
